DRAKANON: WHAT DOES IT STAND FOR

Drakano’s name is derived from the neighboring mountain with the same name, and also in conjunction with the cape next to which it was built. There are very few remains left of the town’s ancient acropolis, which is located near the famous 10m high watch tower built in the years of Demitrios Poliorktis. It is noted that in 1826 Admiral Sachtouris, who was sailing close to the island wanted to try his ship’s cannons and as his target, he chose the watch tower. The cannons caused significant damages to the famous watch tower which still stands today.
