Helios Chapter #19 News Winter 2005

Helios Chapter #19 News

Greetings to members of the Brotherhood. Here’s news from Helios Chapter #19.

Helios was well represented at the Supreme Convention in Chicago. We were proud to be one of several Chapters that stepped up when called upon to donate a $1200 scholarship to ensure assistance for one of our deserving Ikarian youth. And our own Fran Glaros established an endowed scholarship in memory of her late husband, George Glaros.

We were thrilled and delighted to be named the Host Chapter for the 2006 Supreme Convention. Our Convention co-Chairs are Gus Tsambis and PSP Stan Tripodis, and PSP Gus Stefanadis is senior Advisor.

We remain proud of our own Sonja Stefanadis, who was re-elected as Supreme Treasurer, and Niki Plutis, who was re-appointed as IKARIA Magazine Editor.

At our December monthly meeting, we held a Christmas party. Santa’s helper,

Dan Kaster distributed gifts to the children, who sang Christmas carols afterwards.

We conducted election at the end of the year. Our new Chapter officers are:

Pres- Argie Glaros, Vice Pres- Dessi Plutis and Kathryn Athanasiades,

Corresp. Secretary- Fran Glaros, Rec. Secretary-Anna Tripodis, Treas.-Anne Anderson,

Asst Treas.-Demetra Shokkos, and Board of Governors- Tony Velasquez, Steve Parianos, Maria Papa, Ed Crockett, Filio Moshovakis, and Charlotte Pardos Crockett.

We spent much of the time in our meetings making preparations for a visit of the Supreme Lodge that took place on the weekend of Jan 22, 2005. On that Saturday morning, the Supreme Lodge along with several members of Helios Chapter conducted an inspection tour of the Renaissance Vinoy Hotel in St. Petersburg, which will be the location for the 2006 Supreme Convention. The Lodge then returned to the Leski to conduct their meeting. On Saturday night, Helios Chapter held its 28th Annual Dinner Dance at the John Paul II Hall in Clearwater. The event was successful, as approx. 450 guests attended and enjoyed a sit down dinner of beef tenderloin and danced to the music of “Odyssey”. Event co-Chairs were PSP Stan and Anna Tripodis.

Helios Chapter donated $100 towards a project sponsored by the Pan-Hellenic Federation of Florida to erect a statue on Clearwater Beach to honor the first Hellene supposedly to set foot in America, a man named Theodoros.

We acknowledge and thank our hard working kitchen crew that prepares the meals for our monthly meetings: Mary Tsambis, Nick Plutis, Fran Glaros, Gus Tsambis, Argie Pastis, Joanne Proios, Charlotte Pardos Crockett, and others.

Respectfully submitted, PSP Stan Tripodis, Helios #19
